Of the 73 millions inhabitants in Ethiopia, there are only 750 thousand Catholics - less than 1% of the total population. Yet the Catholic Church provides 90% of the social services in the country. In each diocese there are between 40 and 50 Catholic schools, similarly hospitals, houses of care and orphanages. The challenge of social services is compounded by the vast distances and the dispersal of faithful: 50 priests serve in an area 3.5 times the size of Switzerland obliging the clergy to travel days on end, carrying provisions on the back of a donkey. This short documentary considers the story of Catholic services as well as the day-to-day struggle of the priests to serve their faithful.
