This Video was from the Nighline interview from Autumn of 2004. It is a rare interview of the circumstances involving the Art Heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. On March 17, 1990 two Men dressed as fake policemen tied up museum employees upon entry into the museum. After the Museum workers were tethered, the fake cops were about to undergo the largest Theft in U.S. History; The two men stole over $520 Million dollars worth of artwork as well as Artifacts not mentioned in this interview footage. Among other masterpieces, the thieves stole an extremely valueable Oil Painting painted by Vermeer in Delft, Holland in 1664. That painting Measured: 72.5 cm × 64.7 cm (28.5 in × 25.5 in). Other mentioned works in this video that are gone are (3) Rembrandts, a Portrait of a Baron by Manet, Rembrandt's only known Seascape of Christ in the Sea of Galilee, and several other Artifacts. A 22 Carat Gilt Bronze Finial in the shape of an Eagle that once belonged to Napoleon Buonaparte himself was a "Break-and-Grab" from a Glass Case within the Gardener Museum just as they were exitting the Gallery. Also stolen were an extremely small Miniature self-portrait of Rembrandt himself, as well as an Ancient Chinese Ku dating back to 11th Century, China. The 2 men disguised as policemen stole 16 paintings Total from the Museum's permanent collection as well as paintings on loan from private owners that were touring Boston at the time of the theft.

  • As Channel holder of this Channel, I find it interesting to see the Responses/ Statistics coming out from RUSSIA and IRELAND since February 2008, when I first posted these Videos. It makes me wonder if one or more of these Paintings are Somewhere in Russia or the British Isles. It is such a Cultural Loss not having these works in a Museum but in the arms of Theives for well over 21 years. What a Shame! There's a 5 Million Dollar reward if they can be found via contacting the Boston Authorities.

  • God, this leaves me fuming -especially the Rembrandt seascape and the Vermeer.

I'm almost as angry at the lack of security as I am at the thieves themselves.

    "These are just street criminals..."

Then why the hell were they able to do this?

  • How incredibly foolish to not have better protection for masterpieces like that!

  • this is upsetting

  • These works of art are priceless

  • @allwf It's cool, maybe I should get a donation started for you to implant a brain stem.

  • So many valuable masterpieces gone.

Sadly these guys probably made near nothing probably, maybe a few millions.. when they're true worth is hundreds.

  • Supply and demand like welovelucas said... 1 item is wanted by many people with lots of money. But try to think of it this way...Art is a testament to time and human existence, an artist, especially a great one like rembrandt gives a piece of his soul to his work. Try to look at the picture in a tranquil state and imagine rembrandt in 1600 something painting that picture, try to imagine for a moment that you are him or that you are the one he`s making that portrait of.

  • okay, so i'm reading this book called the rescue artist right now, so i can answer this with crap that i've read.

okay, imagine if there was only one copy of every book in the world.

    that's how art is.

there's only one copy of every single thing.

but since you dont appreciate the beauty of those art masterpieces, i cant really explain it.

  • sorry guys to say that but i don't understand art.

so can someone tell mw why those pieces cost that much money, they're just piece of painting, with that money you can be very wealthy i just don't get it.

  • 1:36 he takes tooo long to answre have iseen it since emmmmm of course not lol.
