On the Twinight label from 1970, Syl Johnson gets a first crack at a great Jack Daniels/ Johnny Moore song. Tyrone Davis cut this a year later and had a bit more success with it chart-wise. I would assume the Pieces of Peace did the backing on this as they had just released 'Concrete Reservation' with Syl. Syl made Twinight as a performer, arranger, producer, but was soon to leave for HI Records where he stayed and made hits for 5 years Willie Mitchell. Still my favorite version of this great Windy City song.

  • Great great tune! Love it.

  • he wuz one of the best soul artist from the early 70s. str8 chicago soul on that twinight label. i used to play this 45 on saturday afternoons when i had a good stable home life and all that.

  • I bought the slightly more uptempo Tyrone Davis release back in 1971, but only heard this version fairly recently. Very nice. I can't choose between 'em.
