This video is a short selection of comments made at a union rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin on February 25th, 2011, at the Local 72 union hall.

While local and area politicians were at this meeting either live or via telephone, I elected to leave out their words, feeling the union leaders and spokesmen should be left to speak for themselves, their positions and their members.

  • its that the phone call where a lair suggested he place trouble makers in the crowd and the govenor said no. its not a fundalmental right! Why not paid off your 3.6 billion dollar debt

  • @1seticat I am not sure of your position from what you stated. Can you restate?

  • @madmanmikey Sure. The 1st speaker described the Governor's phone call as demonstrating who the govenor "really was." As I understand it, the govenor rejected the suggestion that "trouble makers" be placed in the crowd to help the govenor look better. Nothing is mentioned about that or the fact that the democrates left? A lot of talk about "rights?" Joining a union is not a "right." Driving is not a right! Speaker's feed the crowd what they wanted to hear.

  • @1seticat Thanks for clarifying. Actually, I think the right to join a union is protected under the First Amendment under the Freedom to Assemble clause.

The idea that joining a union is not a right seems a dangerous route to follow. Then would joining the Masons, or the Moose or Monday night bowling be not protected by the Constitution or Bill of Rights? Also, you have to wonder then if joining the Chamber of Commerce would be protected.

  • I am an ibex worker but I would love to hear how any UAW worker is paying to lose benefits. Union dues keep at least five lazy people working. Keep paying so they don't have to work.

  • @madmanmikey I see your point and hope you don't mis understand mine. If something is not a "right" is doesn't mean it's not legal. Think about what a "right' is & how often people just threw the term around,..as if by stating that an action is a right, its somehow constituationally protected. It may be but thats up to the high court to decide.
