So the Church of Scientology argues that they should be above "the Law" because they believe that they act above the laws, and that the people being attacked, who they as a church are legally allowed to attack, are being attacked knowing that death is simply a banishment from their current body, where they will have to try and enter something else before they are captured and rebrainwashed, as again, all souls here on Earth are in jail. We are reborn as humans in this relatively shitty world.

According to L. Ron Hubbard, the "Real World" where the "enlightened" civilizations live elsewhere in the universe, Earth is a prison for souls. We are given "implants" (if you've watched southpark, its the "brainwashing" which are what causes us to be essentially "human". In short it gives us our instincts; basically survival. Which is why death is so frightening to us, it allows us to be controlled.

According to Scientology, when you become an "Operating Thetan" they say you are self aware that you are what is called a "Thetan", simply put a soul. And they teach you when you die your soul leaves your body and you go to find something else to inhabit. Its interesting to see how many recent scientologists commit suicide, almost as if they wanted to leave their bodies and this life and go to their next. Murders would be for people trying to give out their secrets, basically banishing them.
