  • them were the dayz. brings back memories seeing those coal sector 56's at doncaster. i used to go there all the time back then. makes me sad seeing these old vids as well because just makes me realise how boring railway is these days. anyway great stuff thanks for uploading.

  • Ah memories of Donny. Used to go all the time as a kid during late 70's and sneak round the back of Donny works. All gone now...............and the railway network is NOT any better than it was. Kill all Voyagers & Pendalinos!!

  • brings back some good memories when trains were trains at donny with dad when i was young watching the original hst"s scream through the station ,thanks

  • @jamestheengine I remember in 80-81 somebody used to cut the wires to the Tannoy in the Up waiting room so we could kip inbetween bashes. BrR repaired it, and it kept getting cut again!

  • The 91's looked so great in Intercity livery 8-(

  • The last time i was at Doncaster was when they were building the 56's and 58's -i have many photos inside the works of 56's58's just as chassis with chalked numbers on them front and side. The Deltic's were outside standing for scrapping-very sad stuff.I used to go with a few mates at weekends in a car and drive around to the different sheds, shirebrook, barrow hill, toton, tinsley, doncaster works,on unscheduled walk arounds-used to slip a worker a fiver for his trouble.

  • Fantastic films! The last time I was at Donny was when 56099 stood outside the works brand new.

  • Good shots bud, thanks for sharing those gems.

  • Well i spose we had to move on, there are now more trains and more people using them. 66's now do the job well of moving freight but those pendolino's and voyagers are a backward step IMO, total and utter shite! Nowadays, i take my car rather than travel on those glorified street cars!

  • @jamestheengine Depends. It's faster. Carries more people. Has less charisma. Today's railway is a passenger focused railway, and not enough freight is carried. There is very little diversity in rolling stock. Too many E/DMUs, and the ones that there are lack character. The last British trains are the 43s and the 91s (I'm talking expresses), and they still seem to have a bit of British character about them. But the rest are dull. Nothing is built here. Basically, it's not a whole system any more

  • Like the 91 just sat there, unable to move!

  • Great memories even down to the girl announcer, all gone, and can anyone tell me if todays railway is really better?
