After the first day of climate talks in Copenhagen, DC activists with the Avaaz Action Factory delivered a "Fossil of the Day Award" to Austria for being one of the biggest obstructionists on the first day of the conference. Austria and its Nordic neighbors Sweden and Finland tried to co-opt the REDD mechanism, which is designed to give offset credits to DEVELOPING countries for protecting their forests. It is NOT designed as a way for wealthy DEVELOPED to avoid making actual emissions reductions. SHAME ON YOU, AUSTRIA.
