A new song that I wrote today for Between The Wars, called "Fashion and Forgery". It's about a guy who is spending New Year at a fashionista party with his girlfriend who does not want to leave. He realises that they are not meant to be.
Lyrics:
there's no nice way of saying this, i don't want to be in this place
celebrating new year with these people, they all reek of fashion and forgery
and i would rather be anywhere else with you but you would rather be here
so i'll stand in the corner and amuse myself by dismantling all the hors douvres
but i can't find a reason to stay (not even)
you and me should cease to exist
there's no nice way of saying this, the smoke is getting in my lungs
why can't these people talk normally? it's all one big word after the other
and i would rather we went out for a drive but you would rather be here
so i'll walk out the door and go somewhere else; take in some music at an open mic night
'cos i can't find a reason to stay (not even)
you and me should cease to exist
let's not end this game in silence; it's not science, we're just too different...
you and me should cease to exist
