Of course it is in the Scripture since whole families accepted Christianity and all of their members were taking part in the Lord's supper.

Filipinoy, Yes the bread and wine are mixed in the chalice. The Orthodox Church has been doing communion like this since about the 7th Century. It was started earlier to keep people from taking the bread home or not eating it when given in the hand and became fairly universal in the Christian East.
