Raised on large, remote farms, Australian sheep enjoy space to roam and very little human contact.
But due to Australia's live export industry, millions of Australian sheep suffer a fate far worse than death every year. They are destined for a horrific journey to slaughter overseas - herded onto a packed truck and driven across the country, sometimes in scorching heat.
It's then onto a ship where conditions are much worse. They're terrified and will spend up to three weeks on the crowded ship. With around three sheep to one metre square, there is little room to move and an unfamiliar diet of pellets means many animals may not eat for the entire journey.
Stress, heat-exhaustion, injury and disease result in the death of around 1,000 sheep on each ship of 100,000. Those that survive the journey arrive in countries with no or unenforced animal welfare legislation where they are often transported, handled and slaughtered in the most barbaric way.
It's just cruel.
It's also completely unnecessary. Australia already exports chilled meat to many countries it sends live animals to. Replacing live export with a growth in the trade of chilled meat, humanely killed as close to the farm as possible, will benefit both animals and Australia.

  • Liberal Senator Chris Back said the live sheep trade was an integral component of the nation's livestock industries and contributed significantly to the provision of food in the Asian and Middle East regions. He said the fact he was actively engaged as a veterinarian in the trade and did many trips to the Gulf gave him confidence in supporting the industry

I have one advantage over those who criticise so stridently, Mr Back said

I have experience in this field and know what I am talking about

  • Handle with care can fuckoff, its a fuckin cheap propoganda clip .

  • someone should tell those sand people that making your meat tense makes it harder to chew and less tasty. lookin at those lambs made me hungry for some chicken. i dont think thats sad 1 bit. watch the natural world and you will see what sand people do is no different then what every country does. BUY SELL KILL. its the civilisation way. without it we would be at war with eachother over those goats.

  • @johnnyeggbeater kill all the sheep here in oz

  • funnyfannyfart the meat you eat does not go through this....its the sheep exported and what can we do to change the beliefs and customs of another country????

  • ALL WRONG!, OLD VIDEOS AND OLD POLICYS! Australian sheep are the most looked after sheep in the world! Our standards are so high! PETA should spend more time trying to educate people overseas that receive the sheep instead of having a whinge at us for exporting them

  • Look at how they treat their women, you think they'll treat their sheep any better?

  • thank you for the video. I hope people don't just watch but take action. I was moved to become a vegetarian. I don't want to eat meat that is put through this pain and suffering. I am done with meat.

  • stop live exports!
