The recent Spectacle taping w/Ron Sexsmith, finally offers us a rendition which highlights the sad irony woven into not only the lyric, but also the melody and song structure. It was always there, but Ron found its quivering heart and EC caught onto it about 12 years ago when he sang it in duets with Steve Nieve.
