Established in November 1974, the Beijing Wushu Team is the most prestigious Wushu sports team in the world today. Team members are selected from thousands of youth applicants and rigorously trained as full time Chinese martial arts students in the historical area of Shi Sha Hai in Beijing. Over the past 37 years, they have won more then 30 Chinese National Wushu Championships and earned nearly 300 gold medals in national and international competitions. Outside of competitions, the team serves as cultural ambassadors for China and has performed for many important guests, including former U.S. President Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter.
The Beijing Wushu Team is also credited for training a number of renowned Wushu masters, many of whom have become international film stars, most notably Jet Li, Wang Jue, Wu Jing (Jacky Wu) and many others. Popular movies include: Fearless (2006): Shoalin Temple (1982): Fatal Contact (2006): The Karate Kid (2010) and more.
Many former team members ofthe Beijing Wushu Team now teach Wushu in America and around the world. They have made enormous contributions to the training and promotion of Wushu and Chinese culture globally.
The team has made remarkable achievements in recent years, continuing the teams legacy at national and international Wushu competitions.
