never said it was a good thing, just that they're well within their legal rights to do so.

Of course. As long as it falls in-line with conservative racist homophobe war-profiteering hypocritical sexist immoral fascist POW-torturing accountability-dodging lying manipulative right-wing views, correct? Cos we all know if they banned Bibles (something of no value except to Americans) the entire country would be in an uproar. Cultural studies are more important than say... football. So, banning whatever they want should be replaced with banning things that serve no educational purpose.

no, the appropriate thing to do is to teach the class. keep the books and the teachers but be more careful to use specific and clear examples of inequality, and injustice that focus on the community as a whole and put an emphasis on actions that can be taken not only by the students in the class, but the entire school.to raise awareness, understanding and a sense of communal responsibility for abandoning the bigotry of our grandmothers. failing that though... smuggle the books.

thats what they said anyway. but my grandma lives in Az. and she doesn't believe in the trail of tears or small pox blankets. She thinks its them beans that are making it hard for them to find good health care. She Doesn't know what it means to annex unless it means, declaring some thing that was not inhabited as your own as the first white person there. like Texas, the rest of the US, the reading annex of the library, Israel and the moon. People like her are the reason the class gets shut down

okay, lets take this nasty bag of christmas lights-like record and lay it out straight. They didn't ban the books or the idea of teaching about a culture or its importance and history within the broader confines of american culture, political science and history. They freaked out because there were teachers who were using the class to pontificate, and to instigate. they were teaching students that they were being oppressed by white america, this lead to growing tension within the students.
