11/8/8 The conflict in the Congo is affecting the chimpanzees as well. Today on Gorilla.cd there is a picture of a soldier carrying a chimp. The following quote was used there as well: On his way to the International Summit in Nairobi to find a solution to the current crisis in Eastern Congo, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the following:

The natural environment enjoys protection under Protocol 1 of the Geneva Conventions. But this protection is often violated during war and armed conflictThe United Nations attaches great importance to ensuring that action on the environment is part of our approach to peaceLet us renew our commitment to preventing the exploitation of the environment in times of conflict and to protecting the environment as a pillar of our work for peace.

This video was shot on Ngamba Island where a sanctuary has been established to rescue orphaned chimpanzees. Support is needed to keep this effort going. Enjoy music by African Tribal Orchestra titled "Forget your Fears"

  • Hi Tammy

Glad to see you're still traveling. BTW Retirement is awesome!

  • Thanks for your comment Buddy. This one was a worthwhile cause. I went to see the gorillas but also got to discover this wonderful work with the chimps that was started by Jane Goodall. Glad to hear you're enjoying retirement. You've become quite the video king yourself :-)

  • very cool Tammy...I am thrilled to know about this effort! Thanks for sharing! ~Tinah

  • Thank-you for spreading the word. The entire trip was magnificent and I'll get the gorillas online soon!

  • So sad. We have humans starving and without homes in every country of the world and we still can find it in our hearts to try to help the animals as well. No being should have to suffer. These animals are a cousin to us.

  • Really amazing video!

I have been this summer to Uganda, it is such a beautiful country. Ngamba Island is great, I have been to the gorilla's aswel, in Rwanda.

Have you done the rafting in Jinja?

  • We were in Uganda during the rainy season so many of our pics are steamy and blurred. Even so, it was so wonderful to see these animals in their natural habitat with their natural behavior. Thx for sharing!
