Afghanistan is 40% pashtuns, the rest Tajik, Hazara etc., as ponted out by afgqalandar below. I agree with him/her that pashtuns should not be separated from the rest in Afg but there are some ignorant afgs who want greater pukhtunkhwa. It is like East Germans asking the greater Germany to join them before the collapse of USSR. Then EG was poor, backward and occupied. So let us concentrate on development and forget about greater pukhtunkhwa etc. We will be cousins and cousins are friends only.

Let me make it clear. Pashtoons are from Afghanistan and Afghanistan is (Pashtoon, Tajik, Hazara, Pashaye, uzbak and nooristani). so we dont want to be separated from Afghanistan by making Pukhtoonkhwa. Pashtoons from pakistan can join afghanistan any time, most welcome.

Let us assume we carve out Pashtoon part of Afghanistan and join it with Pukhtunkhwa to make it an independent nation. Guess what, that will make the greater Pukhtunkhwa the second backward nation on earth after the truncated Afghanistan. Nationalism is great but to go backwards because of nationalism is not the cure for our ills. We need to spread education in our nation, not throw them into further darkness.

I am a red blooded pukhtun and I am a proud Pakistani/American. Have you ever made any survey that tells what the Pukhtuns think of Afghans? Sorry to burst your bubble but You will be surprised to learn that the majority of Pukhtuns in Pakistan, although brotherly feelings for Afghans, do NOT want Afghanistan to join Pukhtunkhwa. Afghanistan is for Afghans which is Pashtoons, Tajiks, Hazarvis etc. Do not be offended but that is a fact. Ask any Pukhtun and he will let you know.
