He is a member of Sigma Pi Phi fraternity ("Boulé"), 100 Black Men, the NAACP, as well as the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and Nassau County Bar Association.

As an amateur photographer, Mr. Bythewood earned a Grammy nomination for his photograph used on the cover of Herbie Hancock's "Speak Like A Child" album.
