The problems facing migrant workers have been brought to the forefront again following the gruesome death of two Bangladeshi workers at a construction site in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur on 8th March 2009.
The two Bangladeshi workers were crushed to death by a ton of concrete bricks that fell from the 22nd floor of the almost-completed UOA Bangsar Tower after a crane cable snapped. The site is just a stone's throw from Malaysiakini office in Bangsar Utama.
Incidents like this one are not uncommon in the country,as Malaysiakini finds out after contacting various migrants' rights activists and organisations.

we should give equal rights and give respect to the migrant workers as they contribute loads to the maysian economy. living outside malaysia has made me realize how wrong the way the government and the society treats them....looking down on them as though they are another sub-human race...maybe im exagerating but cant help being frustrated! sorry. i jus believe that every human being has the right to have basic human needs and so fourth....hope i made sense and some point.....

you are talking out of your arse!!! a softy malaysian won't last 15 minutes doing what they do. Malaysia is already one step to a total dicatatorian rule, with people like you it will be like North Korea.

migrant workers shld be sent back to their countries. Malaysia cant take care of them. Let locals do the hard work.

Migrant workers should be covered some sort of insurance provided by employer (with working permit). The relevant government agencies should enforce the existing Law that has such provisions for such issues. At the same time, the MOU pertaining work status & their rights should be clearly stated between Malaysia & the foreign workers country of origins.
