  • So what, they were returning to America anyway, so who would know the difference.

  • They were bleeding too much energy.  Had they put the gear down sooner they probably would have been short the runway by 10's-100's of yards. Nice move on the pilots part.

  • WTF is the story of the pilots only dropping the landing gear 10 sec's before touch down.( Look at 4 : 48 till touch down.) There is no room for error there..

  • The shuttle often has escort planes/fighters that fly along with it during landing, I think that was one of them.
