http://chris.pirillo.com/why-windows-7-is-better-than-vista/ Macmanmcmanaman, a member of the LockerGnome.net community asked, "Is there any reason to use Vista over a different Windows OS?" This is a good question, and the answer is very simple. No, there is no reason to use Windows Vista at this point in time.

I love Windows 7, and I have done many videos in the past demonstrating some of its amazing features. I was a huge supporter of Windows for most of my life. My entire reputation was put on the line when, after a significant amount of time spent on Vista, I decided to make the switch to OS X as my primary operating system. Viewers of the live feed watched as Vista crashed again and again, often during tapings.

Windows 7 is an excellent overall user experience. There is no reason to stay on Vista when Windows 7 is remarkably improved in every area Vista failed to deliver.

  • @gameteacher101 I'm not sure how much more you could take off. Vista and 7 take at least 1 GB of RAM (Vista prolly takes a bit more). I'd say you're fine at 30%. I'm still using Vista and after startup it takes 35-40%. Either upgrade your RAM or if you're considered about RAM usage, be sure you're not running too many programs at once that you don't need. Maybe disable some unnecessary services, though I have not tried that yet as I don't want to mess up my computer.

  • @K83b2 its really fast as in 15 seconds to boot up all i want is to free up some of my ram all i got is 4 gb when just in idle it uses 30 % wich isl ike 1.200 gb eny way i can reduce that to maybe 25 ?

  • @gameteacher101 I take it it's fast enough at boot time, but when it gets to the desktop, does it hang (freeze/slow down) when it gets to the desktop screen? If so, how long does it take for the startup programs to load up? Just disable any dell program/process that runs at startup.

  • @K83b2 well right now from a fresh boot up after taking things like google update real player and some proces and startup programs off i got like 65 proceses now i hav 70 with two tabs and ie9 runing i have a dell desktop

  • @gameteacher101 Hmmm, what brand is your laptop/desktop (HP, Dell, etc.)? Not sure what you have on your list of startup programs, but you could disable ones that the manufacturer (HP, Dell, for instance) has their software preinstalled and loaded at startup. Unfortunately, it didn't exactly work for me. I disabled a decent amount of startup programs, and although less processes are there at startup, it's still slow for the first few minutes on the desktop screen...

  • @K83b2 im on windows 7 and i have 78 proces open can u tell me what i can turn off in the msconfig plz :)

  • @K83b2 You could always create a system restore point then do what you need to do, and if anything goes wrong always boot from safe mode then restore. But, I wouldn't want to mess up anything either, so it's your choice. Right now I'm doing mantinence on a Windows 7 computer I'm using for a server, this thing is completely bogged with ancient versions of the server/network communications and management tools, so I made a restore point and I'm completely wiping all of those things.

  • @OnTheTuub I disabled a handful of startup programs. That didn't do too much help. But having 75-80 processes sounds like a lot. Before disabling some startup programs I prolly had like 85-90 at startup. I'm tempted to tweak Vista a bit by disabling some services, but I'm not sure if it's worth it if it will mess up my laptop. But aside from that, Vista runs great. I do use Norton. It's a resource hog when it scans, but it definitely does the job and viruses never harm my laptop.

  • for me vista is a piece of crap, i was suggested to install vista but i reject it, better XP and 7

  • Hey, did you ever mention the Mojave experiment?
