Can somebody explain to me how Rutherford knew how many nuclei were in the gold sheet of foil? In the experiment, they could count the number of foam-nuclei, but I don't see how they could in the real experiment. From what I've seen, it only looks like they could only calculate the total area taken up by the nuclei, not what each individual diameter is.
