Da Muo, creator of Shao Lin kung Fu, taught Shao Lin monks kung fu is for peace and health purpose. It is ABSOLUTELY not for fighting and killing like Karate and Muay Thai.
Monks are definitely not allowed to get involved in fighting unless they are in live and death circumstance, I mean real monks.

Amazing stuff here. I think that guy at around the 0:40 mark was Iron Balls Chow. He sings soprano now---used to be a bass---in the Shaolin Opera. Of course, none of this shit will stop a bullet so in the real world of urban street violence they can still be killed but most garden variety muggers will get their asses kicked trying to steal chop sticks from these Shaolin monks.
