Written and performed by Amy Dixon-Kolar (c) 2008 Asharta Music/ASCAP. This was written a few days after November 4, 2008 and was inspired by the quote used as the chorus and the celebrations and photos of this historic day. Photographer Bernie Kleina was kind enough to give permission for me to use his photos of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the murals in the Pilsen area of Chicago.

Recorded December, 2008 by John Abbey, New Soup Studio, Chicago, IL

Thanks to Bernie Kleina, photographer: hopefair@aol.com, RosaParksfacts.com, BarackObama.com, GettyImages, USHistoryImages.org and others...

"Rosa sat, so Martin could walk
Martin walked so Barack could run
Barack ran so all our children could fly"

Where did this quote come from? Check out these links:

  • Pathetic~ No neg commentz allowed.. Good video, just wrote for the wrong man.

  • @Naketaa - not really, just haven't had very many. Those that I've removed have been racist or downright crude. Trying to keep the conversation at a reasonable level.

  • Great song! I'm working on this song for my fifth grade BIG presentation! ( But some words are different) But it still IS a GREAT SONG! No dout abot it!!! It truely is amazing!!1 Oh, I can go aon, and on about this song! "Rosa sat, so martin could walk. Martian walked, so we could run. We run, he runs and she runs so that all we children can fly..." The chours to the song I'm singing( with a few others) withj the changed part!!! NIGHT OF THE NOTABLES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @suesadinski Thanks for your thoughts on the song. Truly appreciate it. I'm curious though, why you felt the need to change the words?

  • Odd responses for this video once again.

  • There's no logical reason for anyone in this country to support Obama anymore. At all. i keked at this video though.

  • lol nice song, but I am looking for the "rosa parks sat so martin luther could walk..." from jay-z's "my president is black" but this is also nice ;)

  • @t3rr3nc388 - thanks, but nah - Jay Z said he heard it somewhere, but it wasn't from me. I've made it clear from the beginning that I read this quote and heard it quite often before the election and felt it needed to be part of a song. Some folks have said it comes from a single mom in upstate New York. Haven't gotten that substantiated as of yet, but I will never take credit for the actual quote itself, just for the song I wrote from its inspiration.

  • @marsh820 wait...the more I think about it, that doesn't pass the sniff test. the senator said ""Rosa Parks sat down so we could stand up. Martin Luther King marched so Jesse Jackson could run. Jesse Jackson ran so Obama could win." I don't think that the two of you could end up with the same translation, and Jay Z is a reputed plagiarizer. In hip hop it's called biting. I believe you've been bit.

  • thats a great song thubs up on that

  • @megajacjiechanfan - I did. I wrote and sang it. Look at the info right under the video. Gives you all the info.

  • Amy DK, you inpsire me. Thank you.
