Photos of Cistercian Monastery ruins built in the mid 1100s that were founded, built and staffed initially by Clairvaux Abbey in France. Generally these abbeys were promoted and funded by wealthy kings or land owners at the time.
These three Abbeys are are in England and Portugal.

Historical Information was obtained from the Internet Wikipedia. Two photos were included from unattributable sources.

  • Glad you enjoyed the video on 12 Century Cistercian Abbeys. The issues that faced those Abbeys in the 15th Century are similar but very different today.
