Lyrics Adapted from Shel Silverstein's classic poem. I had so much fun putting Lord Byron's "She Walks in Beauty" to music, that I thought I'd give this poem a try.

Lyrics:

lets find a way to leave this place where the black smoke blows
past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
away from the darkened street that winds and bends
and as we go we'll walk with a walk that's measured and slow
and we'll watch where the chalk white arrows go
until we reach the place where the sidewalk ends

take me to where the sidewalk ends
and before the street begins
where the grass is soft and white
take me to the cool of the peppermint wind
where the sun burns crimson
and the moonbird rests his eyes
just you and I

yes, we'll find a way to leave this place where the black smoke blows
and we'll go where the chalk white arrows go
away from the darkened street that winds and bends
and as we go we'll walk with a walk that's measured and slow
for the children mark and the children know
the way to get to the place where the side walk ends

  • I like the song and visuals, but it constantly remings me of...."I'm leaving on a jet plane..." Is that intentional?

  • Nope, not intentional, but now that you say it I can totally see it. The chord progression in the verse seems to be the same. The chords are quite different in the chorus, but both have big jumps in the melody. Good call, thanks for listening!

  • Hey. Great music. Do you mind telling me what chords this would be on a guitar? I want to try and learn this.

  • Thanks! I'll send you the tabs

  • @gordontrue Could I get the tabs as well? It's a great song and a favorite poem of mine :) You did such a good job.

  • Thanks so much. Sure, I'll send the tabs now
