Let's make sure we understand what the biblical term, backsliding, means and use it correctly.

  • We do have the biblical story of the prodigal son, you can read it in Luke 15:11-32 as well as the story about the awful sins King David committed. Pastor Mike, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." the first and greatest law and "Love your neighbor as yourself". It's very important for all Christians to obey these commandments! If it challenges us we can pray that God put a clean heart in us, and seek this. And never forget to forgive others

  • @womule2005 Yes do truly repent Jesus will not turn away a truly repentant person. Seek Him and seek to love Him with all your heart mind and soul. Give Him your all and live for Him. Pick up your cross daily and follow Him. With Him in you (His Holy Spirit) He can and will complete the work He started (if you are sincere) and will strenghten you to help you overcome temptation. He also will provide a way out when temptation is too much. Hopefully, this will help since I see you posted 1 yr ago

  • I've alwas been confused by the precise meaning of the Biblical term 'fall away', which I think is key. Does it mean to fall into a period of sin, or is it a final repudiation?

  • I appreciate your attempt to define these terms; but I disagree. "Apostasy" in the NT can also be used in a corporate sense (2nd Thess 2:3) in which there is a corporate FALLING AWAY {apostasia} from the church. Also just because a term is in the OT does not mean the connotation of that term cannot carry over in the NT or today. There are countless people who have served the Lord genuinely for several years; then for whatever reason fallen away. This is dangerous "once saved" doctrine.

  • This definition of backsliding couldn't be more wrong. Look at all the people in the bible who backslid in a personal way and not just when the whole nation did. David- murder & adultery, Solomon- Built altars for and worshiped idols, Sampson- lusted fornicated and forgot God, and then Lot who I cant even fit all he did in this comment but in 2 Peter we find him called that "just Lot" and "that righteous man" all saved men and all got backslid. This video is garbage plain and simple!

  • I think you try to simplify this important topic too much...you see there are christians who live in the flesh too, or who may stop attending church but not stop fearing God... You cannot conclude that they never were saved (this is just a small portion) ...some fall away, some become overtaken in a fault, some did not get grounded enough, some are under satanic attack, some are weak, each case needs prayer and special attention.

  • I think Pastor Mike has forgotten about something. David, who was completely devoted to God backslid to such an extent that he took bathsheba while she was married to uriah. She became pregnant and so David had her husband sent to the frontlines of battle where he was killed. God sent Nathan to reveal Davids sin to him almost as though David was not admitting his sin to himself. David later repents and begs God not to take his Holy Spirit from him. David was forgiven but did suffer for it.

  • hmmm.... This is something to think about.

  • so whats going to happen to me? can i still repent?

  • I know people who answered an altar call at 14 years-old and think that they are "saved" even though they spend the next 40 years living like the Devil. No Bible, No Praying, No Good Fruit. They still say that they believe in Jesus and are sure that they are "saved". You cover that pretty well, but false salvation is REALLY hard to overcome because it's hard to get somebody saved who already think that they are saved. Pitfall of some people with incomplete knowledge about Calvinism...
