American Libraries Associate Editor Pamela A. Goodes interviews Jamal Joseph, who delivered the Arthur Curley Memorial Lecture. Joseph details his personal odyssey, from joining the Black Panthers and time in federal prison, to becoming an author, playwright, and college professor, the upcoming book Panther Baby: A Life of Rebellion and Reinvention. In the interview, he speaks of his educational influences, both in his family and within the Black Panthers, the role that art played in his life and especially during his time in prison, the importance of incorporating the contributions of black Americans in history curricula, and more.
