  • how big was she really in todays therms was she a angelina jolie o something less like a simple brazillian girl was she a real star in the usa or not really big because i get this feeling she wa a secondary attraction...r

  • @deedzzy O que era aquele "fundo" no crânio de Aloysio Oliveira?

  • lindo pena nao ter legenda

  • hebneh, Carmen was loved by the people of Brazil. The Press and the political situation back then wanted to portray her leaving the Country for the USA, first as some kind of honour, something that made the Country very proud indeed and soon after they changed this into a betrayal. Brazilians themselves never stopped loving her. Hence the hysteria that took over the whole Country when she died. When you mention "class system " you almost hit the nail on the head.

  • The shots of "carmen" you mentioned where we can see the twin towers in the background, the "Carmen" there was actualy a man called Erik Barreto. A professional Brazilian stage crossdresser who I had the pleasure to see on stage & on stage, believe me,he was nothing less than Carmen Miranda herself.I was lucky to see one of his shows with my eldest sister, so young I was.Very talented man.He did not just Carmem but also some other Brazilian singers from the radio age.

  • it's so hard to understand that this wonderful performer, who was beloved in the United States, would return to her native country to be confronted by open hostility and criticism. I guess the class system was still so strong in Brazil at that time that even Carmen couldn't overcome it. She wasn't elite enough.

Notice in the shots of "Carmen" on the dock in New York, you can still see the World Trade Center towers in the background. This was in the '90s, before Sept. 11.

  • Awesome! And priceless!
