Great tutorial mate, one of the best I've seen on YouTube for stick grip and play technique; as much as what you say as what we can see of your grip. I'm self-taught - been playing for years, but still struggle with grip - this has been a great help!

what about American style matched?

ahhh so dissapointing spot on till you said you should change the pressure applied by the fulcrum

You look like Justin Timberlake. Sorry... Good lesson.

wow. thank you so much! ive had terrible chronic pain in my wrists and have tried SO many ways to fix my grip. i actually had to stop drumming often because of it. your explanation of the joints and ligaments is awesome. ive changed my drumming grip since watching your video and it doesnt hurt anymore AND im playing better than ever. thank you!!

Great little tutorial. I was surprised too, because that's the sticking I've picked up naturally. Didn't realize it was correct.

i tend to use my fulcrum on my middle finger because this gives me a more relaxed feel- is this bad would you say? i think i swap to index when i am doing fast doubles or like quick finger technique to make the most of all three fingers!
thanks for such an awesome lesson!

Starting on the drums on my own, for fun (I'm mainly a pianist), I've adopted your instruction and carefully studied your explanations since about a month now. It works very well and feels comfortable. You are a very good teacher.
Thank you very much.
hey bhudda i have a few things to ask/ say.
firstly do you change the fulcrum to your middle finger instead of your index? what sticks are you using?
an finally dont you think with the doube strokes instead of relying on the bounce you should ''draw out' the 2nd stroke by accenting the second?
kind regards

Very wise. Yes, You want the second note of the double stroke to have the same intensity as the first. You can not achieve this by simply relying on the bounce alone. This is where your fingers come in to "accent" or push the second note a bit more.
I believe that the sticks I used in the video were Vater 3A's and my fulcrum is more on my index finger so that I can use the other three fingers to manipulate the sticks.

HAHAHAHAHA! Who is gonna tell this guy that using your arms can get you carpal tunnels? Other than that, he's alright, but man...using your arms is also pretty goofy. :)

As a drum set player, I use as much arm as I do wrist and fingers. Truth is, carpal tunnel is a repetitive motion syndrome. Allowing the arms to aid in control of the stick, absorbing the shock to the wrist will keep me playing until I breathe my last.
