If i was Tommy i would be kinda mad cause Bob got all the credit. But if I was Tiny i would be kinda mad at Tommy for makin fun of me in front of al those people.
I LOVE this song, and have since I first heard it. It was written by Fred Rose of writing and recording fame. It was written about John Wills, Jr., nephew of Bob Wills. John Jr. grew up to be about 6' 5" tall, and to weigh about a solid 260. I got to see him a bunch of times, and each time I would yell out "Roly Poly" in the middle of his set. He sang it every single time. John Jr. is a great singer. After all, he's got some pretty good genes.
was Tiny giving him a lil poke of fun with that awhaw.. obviously a reference to bob wills, tommy had that look on his face like that is so annoying.....
i dont blame him he desrves way more credit...and its not cool to make annoying sounds in iddle of good songs..lol
Has anyone ever noticed that the big guy flips off Tommy Duncan and says something evil at :21 when he realizes what song is being played? Notice the bravado at :58 of the big guy when he walks up to the mike and does a Bob Wills impression, as if to remind Tommy that he rides on the coattails of his boss. Look at the look of pure disgust on the face of Tommy after this. He then gets the big guy back by changing the lyrics to "bread and butter forty times a day" and taunting the big guy. Odd.
my dad used to sing this song to me in 1946-7 he got to play w/tommy duncan 1 nite in the late 60s my dad also played w/bud issacs a few months in the early 70s....farwell to elwood carroll 1922-2005 wwll vet

The Big Guy is Texas Tiny...real name Guy Cherry. He weighed about 400 pounds.
I worked for him on his radio show and I hosted the show when he made personal appearances. He died many years ago. I really enjoyed knowing him.
Both Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan liked Texas Tiny. I was there when Tiny interviewed the two of them on KGER in 1960.
