  • @sogren5 AW HELL NO.

I've read some fucked up manga with some brutal "rape-to-death" stuff. It really creeps me out. Those who enjoy it are pure sadists, who enjoy hurting people. They know what they're reading, they wouldn't be otherwise.

  • who fits the "boogie man in the bushes" narrative society seems to perpetuate. So if 1 in 3 women are raped within their lifetime regardless of how someone interprets the data, this means that a huge portion of our male community are the perpetrators of these rapes. Now how can someone become a rapists? WIth these staggering numbers they cannot act alone, and this is were society and culture comes in. These

  • men can rape when they feel society sanctions a climate of rape. This sanctioning can be done in so many ways that most rapist do not even identify their actions as rape and instead see their violence as normalized. So how do we in fact have a rape culture? Violence in the media is sexualized, consent is not prioritized or accurately defined, street harassment is common place, jokes that dehumanize women are popularly

  • used, our legal system mandatory sentencing for sex offenders falls short, there is a popular general sentiment that women lie about rape and therefore are easily dismissed (when in reality a woman in statistically more likely to fake her own death than to falsely file a rape charge). These are just a few ways that the abuse of women is not seen as abuse but the common place workings of a society, and therefore

  • allow men to feel justified in their violence while women feel silenced. So by using the term rape culture we refuse to dilute what most women are experiencing, we refuse to dismiss a habitual way that women and men are socialized and in doing this we harness power in words to attempt at working for a better world. A better world will not come if we are apologetic for politically theorizing our lived experiences.

  • Things that are technically rape like Assange in Sweden or that women in Israel who profMTH defended had the same effect.

I refused to call myself a feminist for a long time because of people like NN. Though I object to sexual harassment panda (which offends women a bit) being used to punish men with jail (where they have a high % off being RAPED up the ass for REAL) or even a fine (a bigger cost than offense at a joke). Hurting ppl because they offends you pisses me off.
