Watch the test of the launch device. The compressed air creates smoke as it launches.

  • Isn't it steam because of the way a catapult works, instead of smoke?

  • You are correct. It is steam. Pretty cool!

  • Yeah indeed! Would they use seawater for it?

  • No, it is fresh water that has been treated so it doesn't corrode the system.

  • All the cats on carriers have a hydraulic steam powered catapult system. I spent my time in the v-2 waist cats on the eisenhower.

  • put a seat on it! ;)

  • its steam. God how dumb has our country become?

  • Actually I believe the steam from the launch catapult is from the Nuclear Reactor, if this ship is equipped with one.

  • did they shoot anything, a piano or a car?^^

  • They take the sea water and distill it in evaporators. This they use for the steam system.

Basically it's high quality distilled water.

With all that heat (750deg f) ish. last thing you need is salt :)

The pipes would last a weekend maybe :)
