  • @punjabimonkeyz It is actually the ''sa'' and the ''pa'' wich is , by a flexible convention, the fifth.

  • its a tanpura. its a string drone instrument. you tune it to the 'sa' of the raag which is being played and playing the tanpura will keep you in tune. if you do go out of tune all you have to do is listen to the 'sa' of the tanpura and tune accordingly.
