In deed, this is how empires end. There is a system behind all this. China, Rome, Indian Mogul Empires, The Ottoman Empire, Pax Britannica, the German Reich, France - La grande Nation, the Pax Americana... Phase 1: Everything is perfect, hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Rhetorical question phase.
Phase 2: There may be some truth to the talk of a nearing end, but this is due to external circumstances which have to be eliminated. Who dares to doubt? Who is hindering our success?
Phase 3: Okay... there is some truth to criticism... but our deficiencies are all due to one specific man... Bush for instance, ergo: we get rid of him, we get rid of the plummeting. How do we improve our act?
Phase 4: Yes, we have a systemic problem. Yes it is structural. Yes it is rooted in mistakes being made by our state planners: The WHY questions start coming in. . THIS IS WHERE HOH COMES IN!
Phase 5: Ok. Our modus operandi has clearly failed! WE HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO RECOGNIZE, THAT WE HAVE TO REDEFINE OUR Values and Institutions. My guess is that a phase of ideological, political, theoretical, societal redefinition is at hand in the U.S. Lets hope it happens peacefully.
