News Update: Former Alaska senator Ted Stevens died in a plane crash

Former Alaska senator Ted Stevens died in a plane crash Monday afternoon. Stevens with his friends, including the former head of NASA Sean O'Keefe, were on their way to a fishing camp when the plane hit the side of a mountain outside Dillingham, Alaska, about 325 miles southwest of Anchorage. The crash killed 86-year-old Stevens along with four others, and left its four survivors stranded overnight until they were rescued Tuesday morning. Alaska State Troopers said the survivors including O'Keefe and his teenaged son are now at Providence Hospital in Anchorage with "varying degrees of injuries." The National Transporation Safety Board is investigating the crash to determine the cause, but weather has been named a possibility. Known affectionately as Uncle Ted by many in his state, Stevens was a decorated World War II veteran and the longest serving GOP senator in U.S. history. He is survived by his wife Catherine and his six children.

@PsychoBurgundy2 I'm hardly leftist, trust me, I'm as staunch conservative as they come. I just think all this hate 'lower 48ers' have for Ted Stevens is a little much. Yes I am Alaskan. The guy was'nt perfect but his sins clearly dull in comparison to many many other politicians out there who deserve much more criticism them him. Especially now that Ted has finally passed. Heck Everyone knows that Bill Allen lied about his testimony in the first place. Want to hate someone, hate Bill Allen.
