World Food Programme Executive Director, Ms. Josette Sheeran spoke of the threat posed to food supplies for several African States caused by Somali based piracy. Ms. Sheeran was speaking at the at the International Maritime Organization Headquarters in London on on 3 February 2011 during the launch of the action plan to promote 2011 World Maritime Day Theme, Piracy: orchestrating the response.
The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.
In emergencies, we get food to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After the cause of an emergency has passed, we use food to help communities rebuild their shattered lives.
