@ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Man, love that education you just delivered...original Hollywood Boys Club!! Love it- however, all my mates and I equally rushed home after Jr. High study hall to study on Annette..... it was years before I got my first real guitar. By that time Wes Montgomery had wiped us all out with "West Coast Blues".

@grimmpoxer Man, you nailed it! That stone percussion/drumming groove propels this along like a locomotive- they are all cuttin' a fat hog on this one. This has now supplanted all my other so-called favorite versions.... Ricky is singing in tune and even, almost bends or slurs a couple 'o notes... Johnny Mercer's lyrics complete the package. Go Ricky Go!! Wish I knew 1/2000th of Burton's trick bag... dude is incredible. Altered jazz chords don't belong anywhere near this song.

I first learned about this song through Kenneth Anger's Scorpio Rising, an experimental film about gay men tooling their motorcycles.

Perhaps 'Juiceforjoe' requires a little time to appreciate the virtuoso qualities of James Burton. Of course, s/he is entitled to his/her opinion.

@19450william Papa gene's blues, song by Michael Nesmith (The Monkees) It should be on youtube somewhere. Great song, very Roackabilly with some great guitar pickin' in it.

I guess that Juice for Joe is not aware that a whole generation of guitarists learned to play by trying to ape that cat with the "lame vibrato". (BTW it's tremilo any way)

The best bass line ever and whoever sang the harmony was great

@castalia60able Incorrect they were actually fast chums and hung out and played football together along with Robert Conrad, Lee Majors, James Caan and Chad Everett. Led by ELVIS and LONG before Sheen, Estevez and those young gun punks..this lot was the original Hollywood Boys Club.
Everything about this is great: fantastic chord progression, James Burton smoking on the Telecaster, Ricky Nelson's vocals and the "Papa Gene's Blues" percussion vibe.
