Oh, come on, veikkozeni! Don't be a "drama queen"!:)

I live in Russia, and my second native tongue is Karjalan kieli, and I have absolutely no problems speaking it in my country. You probably think that we still live in Stalin's gulag, or something like that, but times have changed, believe me. Those who want, can speak Karelian language, write and read it. Every year many new books in all Karelian dialects are published in Petroskoi, they teach children to speak the language

  • I can understand what they are saying but their accent is very "russian"

  • @Vojak3 No, I live in Finland but very near the Russian border. I visit Russia every week.

  • Thankyou!:O)

  • kauheen ryssäläistyny kieli, reilusti enemmän ku viro.

  • душевно и просто ...

  • @Tretuville There are several Karelian dialects but no standard Karelian language. There have been some efforts to create one but the problem is that the dialects are too far apart for a single standard language.

Yong generation do not speak any Karelian in Karelian republic and there are only 2000 children learning some Karelian dialect in school. In comparison, there are 10 000 children learning finnish. Today only few elderly people - mainly women - can speak Karelian fluently.

  • Great performance! Nowadays people in Russian Karelia can really practise the karelian language which sounds very beautiful for my ears because my mother's family is from Karelia and I can remember my grandmother speaking karelian.

  • Ei kuullosta suomelta.

    Terveisiä Ranskasta! - Draksen

  • @renbuzhi doesn't finnish is also an official language in russian karelia? :P i know that karelian is a language but as far as i know is only recognized ;)

  • @alexgrinkov Do you live in Russia?
