Work is an essential leverage for development. This has to be stressed in the Millennium Goals more than is the case
now. At the start of the new millennium the world has treated itself with some nice promises: by 2015 hunger and poverty
will be halved. But world leaders forgot that decent work and a decent income are essential if these promises are to be
fulfilled.
The Decent Work Campaign wants to put this oblivion right in the two coming years. Work has to get a prominent place
in the Millennium Goals.

The Decent Work Campaign is supported by two large trade unions, ACV and ABVV, the Flemish ngos Wereldsolidariteit,
FOS-Socialistische Solidariteit and Oxfam-Solidariteit, the umbrella organizations of the North-South movement
11.11.11 and CNCD- Opération 11.11.11.
Other members of the campaign 2015 Time is running out are cooperating as well in this campaign the next two years.
Together we have prepared a list of demands for our politicians, because we want more guarantees that basic workers
rights in the North will be maintained, and that they will be better respected in the South.
By this campaign we want to:
- make the public aware of the abuses which take place on the labour market, and stress the importance of decent work
- denounce the fact that people with a full-time job still earn less than 2 dollars a day
- realize a political list of demands which gives decent work a central place in the millennium goals, in the policy of large
international organizations, in the practice of multinational enterprises, and in Belgian policies.
We can make progress if we:
-make people realize that the workers in the South are not the competitors of those in the North, that their struggle deserves
our support and that it runs parallel with our struggle in the North
-can show the importance of cross-boarder cooperation among workers all over the world
-can include our campaign in a larger international action for decent work
Decent work and a decent income: there is work to be done the next two years.
