@fyq1337 King's Bounty [the original one] was the predecessor for HoMM, the creator for both is the same. He used KB's combat system for HoMM, HoMM in turn has come to affect KB's story.

@2121george Verona, the island over the bridge. There are two barbarian camp hiring places, one of those has royal griffins. There are one or two other places that have them too, but I forget where they are though.
