Dear Humanity,

Do I look sick to you?

Well, I am. I have a rare disease called Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

It's a cancer-like disease and I'm treated with chemotherapy.

I've done 5 months of treatment...
And the doctors still haven't given me an end-date.

But let me tell you a few things you need to know, whether you have cancer or any other disease..
..you should know this.

When Most People Ran Away...
..I had to stay.

When most people chose to close their ears,
I had to yell to make my voice heard.

When most people sighed in relief
I gasped for air and tried not to suffocate.

When most people finished crying I was still wiping my tears.

When most people fell asleep at night, I had to keep my eyes open to make sure I was still breathing.

When most people turned the other way, I had to face everything, everyday.

It was painful.
It hurt a lot.
It still hurts a lot.

And you may think you know, but you only know a part of it.

Anyone going through this knows.
No matter what happens, or who gives up on us...
...WE will never give up.

We are not victims. We are not weak.

We are strong.
We are fighters.
We believe that everything is going to be alright.

We have to keep believing, that we will pull through this.

I refuse to let my disease break me...
...or define who I am.

Instead, it made me...
...better person,
... happier.
...appreciate what I have rather than what I don't have.

It made me see the world with different eyes.

And let me tell you something...

Even though I might cry myself to sleep.

Even though I can be scared at times.

Even though my life has been turned inside out and upside down.

Even though, I lost friends along the way.

Please learn from this, please change your life and value your health.

Your health is worth more than that...
...bag,
... those shoes,
...fancy car that you want.

They sound like words.

...but you won't live forever.

And none of that will be worth anything if you don't have your health.

Also remember that, cancer or any diseases are not just words.

They're not just campaign ads that want your money.

We are people.
We have feelings.
We have family.
We have friends.
We have everything you have.

You can't walk in my shoes for a day, and I hope you never have to. Instead, I'm giving you this advice for FREE.

I might not look like I'm sick. But I am!

Please learn from people going through "hell."

One moment can change your life.
It changed mine.

Don't wait for that moment.

So dear humanity, please remember that behind every disease, whether it be cancer or anything else...

...we are not just words, we are not just "patients"...

We are fighters.

Thank you for your time.

  • Remembering how I loved her American-English accent so I talked to her "Hebbah, please keep talking!" and still today, she keeps talking, to inspire us that we're all struggling in our own way.
