I've gotten quite a few comments on how good the audio quality is and I shot it with my Canon Powershot. You can buy one from Amazon (a newer, better version, actually) here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004J41T7Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=a...

  • The good sound quality is not obtained because of the powershot, it is because DT have a very clean sound in live performances. Go to one of their concert and you will hear it.

  • @Parsifaal As a live sound engineer, I have to respectfully say that you are wrong. Typically the bass sound being produced, especially from the subs as well as the high decible level will usually clip most microphones on cameras because they can only handle a certain SPL level. That is why most videos taken by a camera sound really muffly, pumpy, bad, etc.

It wasn't quiet there and there was a lot of bass. It was a pretty good mix, but it wasn't INCREDIBLE.

  • @Parsifaal I also have gone to one of those shows. I particularly remember this one time I went to see them at the Nokia theater on Sept 25, 2011. I thought, hey, it may be a good idea to take my camera and film it so that others can see it on Youtube. So I brought a camera and did just that...

That made it the 6th time I've seen them.

It's because of the camera, bro.

  • Seriously impressed if your Powershot did that. I suppose it all came together on your placement within the venue as well. Nice upload man :)

  • @flakvr I've used it in a variety of contexts and placements and it just handles the bass really well. We can all attest to what makes the sound bad on most videos with point and shoot cameras, the overwhelming bass that takes over everything else and clips the mic.

Somehow this one doesn't get overwhelmed, but it also doesn't have full bass on it. I'd rather take what it does do than having tons of bass.

  • @ThatGuitarGuy All this talk about your camera...The camera did a fine job doing what it was supposed to do but I think your camera came in a distant 2nd as compared to the work you did operating it! Your footage is EPIC man!!!

  • @bobhilbri Thank you! It was hard to keep it steady when I was head banging, lol!

I noticed that most shots had a lot of zoom ins and what not but I wanted a wide shot of the whole thing because of the new light show. I also figured people would have videos giving different perspectives up close. =)

  • @Parsifaal I totaly agree with you.I went to see them Oct,17th in DC and the sound was crystal clear. That was my 6th DT show. They are always clear and clean unless its outside.Great mix!!

  • @Rizzy55 Labrie's poor pitch is the result of phase problems? LOL. Dream Theater fanboys never run out of excuses.

  • @Parsifaal

FUNNY THING IS..Petrucci is way off timing on his solo...showing exactly the opposite of what your claiming. he obviously does not have a phase free mix. Labrie is also not hearing pitch correctly due the phase problems.

The other logical flaw is that every live DT video recording on Youtube would be awesome. So..not even a nice try

  • And OMG... The LIGHT SHOW is SERIOUSLY INTENSE!! :-D

  • DREAM THEATER should've won the Grammy for METAL. Unfortunately they lump hard rock and Metal together in one category (when they aren't the same genre) and thus, Foo Fighters beat Dream Theater, Mastodon, and Megadeth to win the hard rock/metal Grammy. BOGUS. DREAM THEATER RULES!!! Great video bro!!! CLEAN sound.

  • Dream Theater is quite similar to Rush in the sense that you can't TRULY appreciate them until you've seen them live.
