Concluding my Halloween marathon of Italian horror (for now, at least), we take a look at Phenomena by Dario Argento, starring Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasance!

  • that was more like a window boxing rant than a review

  • @LoganJKelly I talk about windowboxing for roughly 1/3 of the video. It's an issue that bugs me and needed to be ranted about. I still would have talked about everything else for the same amount of time if I hadn't done that part of it. So if I had omitted that part, it would have been a 6-7 minute video instead of 10. You should know by now I like to add to the topics I'm discussing. I just go with the flow. I feel it gives the viewer added value.

  • You can zoom a bit on the PS3 if you change the scale settings, like double scale

  • @dvdmike007 Tried that, it's not the same. It either stretches/distorts the image, or chops part of it off. I can't believe that with EVERYTHING the PS3 does, they still haven't added this basic feature... Just a simple zoom/crop to chop off the black bars while keeping the image area correctly proportioned. Most, if not all, HDTVs can do it. Every PC-based video player I use does it. But the PS3? The most advanced console on the planet and kick-ass HD content player? Nope.

  • You just have to press triangle during the movie for zoom on the PS3.. there is an option called "Screen Mode"

  • @jasonb2378 Double-checked that feature. You CAN zoom, but only on video files. It doesn't work for DVDs. So the only way it can be done with DVDs is to rip the video as vob files and watch it that way. The "Screen Mode" feature doesn't even come up as an option when playing DVDs, only video files.

  • And a year before she was in Once Upon a Time In America, a really awesome film.

  • I saw this as creepers on vhs in the early 90's.

I loved the movie, it had this tension and creeping dread and the soundtrack was outstanding, motorhead and iron maiden FTW!

  • I have several DVD's that also do the dreaded "window boxing" on my TV. But, I try to be optimistic and say something like "hmm...well, this kinda looks like what you'd see if you were looking through the camera lens, right? It's like I'm the director!" haha...thumbs up for 'Phenomena'. Oh, and don't foreget Connelly's earliest film, 'Once Upon a Time in America', directed by the great Sergio Leone. She did have an amazing start to her career, didn't she? =-)
