Arranged ties were oh so 70s, weren't they. I'm okay with that. You can only kill yourself so often, so you have to dispense your mental reserves carefully so you can summon the big effort when it REALLY matters. With the Olympics coming up, both men had bigger things on their minds. I think it's a shame they didn't allow the tie to stand!

@knightsxc06 I agree, Rodgers was set to win. When Shorter realized that he himself couldn't win, then he accepted the tie. But If you're Rodgers why not go for a course record? Whatever, it was the 1970s and they were hippies.

i just ran a 5 mile race with bill rodgers, it too me a minute to realize who i was running with but when i did realize it that just made the race all the more fun
