  • now to explain why they wont work... the projectile breaks the speed of sound in a real firearm, this is what a silencer is made to silence. To an airgun thats muzzle velocity is under 1100 fps will not sound much different because the projectile and air from the barrel is moving to slow :-\ makes less of a difference the making the mechanisn of the gun more silent I figure, besides the fact its illegal in most countrys to change the report of any airgun?

  • @Me102288 They do work !!! A projectile over the speed of sound cannot be silenced, i have a HMR that proves this. A silencer on a HMR reduces the muzzle blast but not really noticed due to the sonic crack, There is a big difference with & without a silencer. A subsonic 22lr is quiet without a silencer compared to the HMR or HV 22lr & much quieter with a silencer. A spring air rifle is quiet with a noisy action, quiet compared to a PCP due to the amopunt of air used & the speed It's expelled.

  • @Me102288 A PCP with a pellet below 1,000fps is quite loud without a silencer. I use my HW80 without a silencer but my 960fps Theoben PCP is much louder without a silencer, so much I would equal it with a sub 22lr in the sence I woudn't hunt without a silencer on it. Even my slower other PCP's (now sold) were used silenced.

  • @Me102288 As it's legal to use silencers in the UK I have the freedom to experiment therefore the experiance & knowledge to pass on for the information of others that can't use & experiment.

  • its close but i think the blue ones were a bit quieter ?

  • @hanzithaking Since makeing this I've done some modifications & improved it.

  • @Me102288.LOL @ you. They do work it is made to supress or silence the report of the wepon it self. Who cares if you hear the crack of the projectile as it flys by. You cant tell where it came from if there is no flash or report. And even low speed rounds out of guns still make a bang when discharged.

  • @Me102288 search "Suppressor (a.k.a "Silencer") Demontration" for a real world example. This shows a guy firing an M-16 with high velocity ammo unsuppressed then suppressed, which shows there is a noticeable difference in the report even though the round is still supersonic. Then it shows a suppressed rifle shooting high velocity, then subsonic ammo, which lets you hear the ballistic crack, then no ballistic crack. This also works on airguns, dampening the sound of the shot.

  • @Me102288 We are not on the same page. A suppressor isn't used to suppress the ballistic crack of the bullet, it's meant to dissipate the gases that push it. Even a subsonic bullet makes noise when fired; the gases make the noise. A suppressor suppresses that gas, super or sub sonic. When it's subsonic it is even more effective.

I use a moderator on my .22 PCP airgun right now. Without it you get a lot of noise, even at 860 fps. With it, almost no noise. Subsonic. Figure it out...

  • @Tomster93 yes, and thats exactly what I said about 1126 feet per sec.. Anything moving that fast is breaking the sound barrier. Hence anything that DOESNT a silencer acts as a simple muffler.

You do not use a silencer with subsonic ammunition.. OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT HAVE TO.

we're on the same page buddy.. now ask yourself, why is he putting a silencer on an airgun that niether projectile or air breaks the speed of sound. Well thats exactly why MUFFLERS were made. :-)

  • @Me102288 Have you even fired a suppressed firearm? If you use a suppressor with high velocity ammo, you WILL hear a ballistic crack, about as loud as a .22 LR, but believe me, that's a lot quieter than it being unsuppressed. If you use SUBSONIC ammo (which they have), for the most part all you hear is the action of the firearm. You say "lol" like it's a joke and you know something we don't, but look up subsonic ammunition sometime, and educate yourself, because you don't seem to know $hit...

  • @Tomster93 hence the air pushing the projectile isnt breaking the sound barrier...

So any propellent below 1126 ft /s a silencer will not work as a silencer.

And the end if your using supersonic ammunition a silencer is probably gunna do nothing, we'll have to come up with silenced supersonic ammunition? lol

  • @Me102288 You keep telling people to research why suppressors work, but you obviously don't understand how they work. A suppressor DOES NOT affect any change on the ballistic crack you get when using supersonic/high velocity rounds, they affect the gases that propel the projectile. I have shot numerous firearms with suppressors, both subsonic and high velocity, and even standard 7.62mm rounds from a bolt gun sound like a .22LR, because the suppressor slows the gas, not the bullet.

  • @gunvidder yup, didnt say you cant use them, said there useless on anying that doesnt break the speed of sound :-\ the crack you get from a bullet breakng the speed of sound is what a silencer silences...

  • @Me102288 I have looked it up and read about it but you said " To an airgun thats muzzle velocity is under 1100 fps will not sound much different because the projectile and air from the barrel is moving to slow". Because the projectile moves slower than the speed of sound it isn't much of a difference you said.

Think about it... It makes MUCH of a difference wether the air/bullet is faster than the speed of sound or not.

Your quoted sentence is still wrong.

  • @2lbsTrigrPull lol, then loook up what they actually silence... the barrel crack you get from a object that breaks the SOUND barrier..

Its more silent to you because you redirrecting the sound lol. I guess you've never researched WHY a silencer works..
