good idea repurposing a bike wheel for use as a rotor.

get 10 of them into a tube and see how effective that would be powering a normal dc motor and even if it could recharge a flat car battery. if it does your in business my friend..

Is it just another turbine? What's the stepper motor used for then?

OK, now I have to go out and grab that rusy old bike in the alley and pull the wheels off. Boy is the wife going to love seeing this out in the front yard. ;-) I'm going to see about using mylar or something lite over the spokes to form the blades.
As for the stepper motor, where is that old broken printer? :-) Nice work jgizmo.

I'm into wind generators, I have actually built one using a treadmill motor but I do not have the knowledge to get some light going on.
Your little mill es pretty interasting.
I'd like to build one.

Diameter isnt too important...just whatever adult sized bike wheel you can get for FREE!

I just happen to have a stepper available...although it produces ac current when it spins...it lights leds very well...but they blink fast due to ac....
