  • It's almost 5am Atlantic time and I finally go to bed, ordered myself one Rod before sleep and thought i was not going to make it through 8 minutes, so tired I am, but I did and loved it and had to write this. God Bless You

    Michal Flisiuk

  • I know that I've said it before Michal, but let me repeat myself if you will.

I am so very, very happy that my music has brought you as much joy as it seems to have my friend. That is the most important thing for me.

    Thank you my dear friend,

    Rod

  • Brings back a shitload of memories for me too my dear old mate.

It was Shirley's and my second visit to Melbourne after having been there earlier in the month I did the Melbourne Homegrown Blues festival with Bob and the band at the Corner Hotel in Richmond on Sunday - November 5th, 1989. It was also that very day that I met Geoff Achison & Fiona Boyes for the first time.

  • We drove back home to Katoomba via Gundagai over the following two days, then returned to Melbourne again by Friday - November 24, 1989 to do a gig with Bob and the band at the savoy Plaza Hotel (as it was then) opposite Spencer Street Station.

Afterwards Paul Wookey, Shirley and I had to walk halway across the city trying to find a cab to get back to St. Kilda with Wookey's guitar and amp in tow.

Can't recall whether you were at the gig on the Friday or not!

  • The next time that we met up, that I remember was at Dutch's Windsor Castle gig/jam on Monday - November 27, 1989 which is when he got me up to sing with his own band for the first time ever and actually ran around adjusting the PA settings for me because he knew what I needed.

We've all been very close friends ever since and I still have the text he sent me last year after Shirley died on my phone. It's the only one I've kept.
