As the third and final wave of journalists head out for their first segment, they experience first hand the Czech Republic which places significant resources into monitoring traffic. The first standstill begins just a few hundred feet after the border with the first heavy goods vehicle check point prior to a number of speed traps along the highway and trunk roads before culminating in Prague. And then there is the security for the Augustine Hotel which itself is located close to the Czech parliament and is the groups destination for the night. It is quickly realized that many Czech drivers have their own interpretations of their countrys traffic regulations ;)
As with any fuel economy challenge, added traffic control officers no matter the country or locale will not causre a problem for Audi Efficiency Challenge participants. Each day, they receive an average speed target that leaves no room for dawdling; although, today, this is difficult to calculate due to a number of construction zones along the way. Naturally, maintaining the respective speed limit is part of efficient driving, and today, the decent averages prove what we all know, following speed limits works :)
