Né le 23 janvier 1910 à Liberchies, il enregistre son premier disque à l'âge de 16 ans, le dernier enregistrement date du 8 avril 1953.
Entre 1926 et 1953 Django a réalisé plus de 1500 enregistrements et composé 200 œuvres devenues des "standard internationaux": Nuages, Minor Swing, Tears, Manoir de mes rêves ou Djangology en sont des exemples.
Instrumentiste et improvisateur hors pair, Django a marqué d'un "son irremplaçable et inimitable l'ensemble de son œuvre enregistrée.
Il à ainsi réussit dans un labs de temps relativement court à, à la fois influencer les créateurs d'un style musical, les jazzmen américains ne jouent pas de la même manière avant et après avoir écouté Django, mais également à changer le folklore d'un peuple, les manouches dont la musique traditionnelle était auparavant la musique tzigane.
Depuis le mode d'expression musical des errants est celui que Django nous a laissé en héritage.
En effet, 16 mai 1953 la musique perdait le plus prodigieux de ses porte-parole.
