Marcus Aurellio is an interesting example of prospect planning in MMA and how it doesn't always come to pass. He started in the ZST promotion and burst onto the scene in PRIDE by defeating then-champion Takanori Gomi in a non-title bout. While he did lose the rematch at Bushido 13, Aurellio was automatically considered a top tier prospect and bought into the UFC. Unfortunately, after dropping to Clay Guida in his debut, Maximus has since struggled to break through the entry level echelon of lightweights, winning bouts in smaller promotions, but failing to make it to the big show. This is one of his earlier ZST tilts in the opening round of their lightweight Grand Prix tournament.
