As opposed to his mother Julie, who is in the "matching to sample"-group her bold young son Flyte has to nose-click on the symbol he was NOT shown preliminarily! This is even more difficult for dogs. Here you can see that some combinations can be quite frustrating for a dog. He has to click on the tiny object to the left, while a big round solid flower-picturer beckons to the right. Quite difficult for dogs, since symbols are not especially important to them. Flyte and Julie are part of a long-time-study of the Clever Dog Lab at the University of Biology in Vienna.

  • This is very, very hard work for a dog! It really makes their heads smoke!!! ;) Flyte kind of gets disappointed in ME whenever he gets too many clicks wrong! I think he expects me not to set him exercises that are too hard!!! So it's MY fault, when he doesn't get it!! He really doesnt like to be wrong at all!!! :)) Looking at the handler to get help seems to be typical for pet dogs. I think they would prefer to get a little pointer by their human instead of having to use their own brains! :)

  • Very interesting, you can kind of figure out what patterns he's expecting. First he thinks to match it, then he seems to think he just has to hit the left button, then it seems like maybe he's figuring it out...also funny how he looks to you whenever he gets it wrong as if to find out what to do

  • My pets do do things by saying things like "going on a car trip" to make the CAT pee on command. On my many trips I break down the passing of time by the length of the trip and constantly update them on, for example, "an eight hour trip," at "seven more hours" "six more hours" etc. "four hours....1/2 way there!" and then breaking it down to fifteen minute increments in the last hour. Can we prove to my friends that they understand this? I know they do!!!! The cats and the dog!!!!

  • Also doch Deutsch *lach*
